Hi Everyone,
Welcome to this months edition of Australia Duel Commander (Boss).
Firstly I would like to thank all who turned up for a brilliant day of cardboard slinging. Nineteen players turned up to battle it out for first place, the Tundra and bragging rights. In the end it was Dave Butterfield who went home thrilled with hard earned tundra for his Geist of Saint Traft deck. Congratulations!
Our next event will be held on Sunday the 19th of May at the usual 1 pm. Stay tuned to the event on Facebook for more details about prizes. We are still trying to work out final prize structure but rest assured there will still be a dual land for first. If you haven’t liked Next Level Games on Facebook yet I suggest you do to get the latest details and happenings of the store.
After our last successful Boss weekend some of you filled out some questionnaires for us, which was very helpful. I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave us honest feedback and a bigger thank you to those who went to that little extra effort by going into depth with their answers.
As a direct result of your feedback we are pleased to announce the new ban list, which all of you have had a role in creating and will continue to shape with your feedback.
The following will be BANNED as of the 1st of May 2013.
Serra Ascendant:
Most of the questionnaires (around 70%) gave feedback that Serra Ascendant was too strong for a format beginning on a life total of 30. A lot of you felt it was a free win, which was easily abused with the free partial mulligan even with the restriction of not being able to crack a fetch. Removal is key in this format but even with removal in abundance in most decks Serra Ascendant was still able to steal games with a few simple attacks.
Karakas:
Now this has been a very tough decision because the community is divided. Half believe Karakas is strong but not over powered or degenerate to the format and the other half feel that it is simply too much of a hoser and unfair. It is easily fetched off cards such as primeval titan, crop rotation and simple tutor.
As the community was divided we have had to discuss and think carefully about both possibilities.
It was concluded for the health of the format that Karakas be banned because it is a large deterrent for players looking to enter the format. We would rather have the format appeal to more players because we all have a passion for this format and would love to see it grow.
The following will be UNBANNED as of the 1st of May 2013.
These enhancement products claim better sexual performance during intercourse. cialis canada prescription It is basically a cialis canada online condition where a man is this. There are numerous solutions to overcome this debilitating sexual condition and Tadalista 10 is one of them, which is safe and effective.
Yawgmoth’s Bargain:
This is a card we believed to be too powerful for the format originally but after last months results a player suggested that Yawgmoth’s Bargain be unbanned (and presented great detail on their questionnaire about it). This is the perfect example of why the more detail the better on the questionnaires, if we had not received a well thought out response we probably wouldn’t have considered it for unbanning.
It was pointed out that the format is intended to be powerful and that for a good bargain deck, even with 30 life, a lot of cards need to be dedicated to get the card into play, get to six mana and still have enough life to draw into a combo/sneak attack/dredge.
We feel this card will be strong but not degenerate in this format and are excited to see what you guys can do with it!
In addition to the unbanning and banning of cards we are also changing the rules in regards to time and poison:
Previously it was one game only if your first took longer than 30 minutes. This just resulted in players conceding at 29 minutes if they were losing, still resulting in three games. We haven’t had an issue with time so decided to remove this ineffective rule.
A player also previously lost the game for having fifteen or more poison counters. We are changing this back to ten because we feel there is enough removal, interaction and stronger decks to allow infect to be a balanced part of the meta. The biggest concern would be Skithiryx the blight dragon. However it is know before the game begins to keep appropriate hands for infect and that the deck is limited to mono black.
There is also another piece of exciting news regarding the eternal masters that Next Level Games is holding later on in the year:
there is the possibility of a “no proxy tournament” with first place being a Piece of Power 9 that is Boss legal: Time Twister. We would love to hear what you guys think of this.
I thank you all for reading this and am looking forward to seeing what awesome decks and combo’s come out this month. Be sure to have those edicts and wraths ready to stop Geist Of Saint Traft going back to back.
Hope to see you all at a Boss event soon
Cheers,
